Best Pizza in Utah (2026)

Pizza is one of America's most-eaten foods. On any given day, about 11% of Americans eat pizza, and more than half of that pizza comes from restaurants, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Utahns have plenty of choices, from wood-fired ovens to pizzerias that have been open since the 1950s. Price is part of the choice, too. A large cheese pizza at an independent Utah pizzeria averaged $17.17 in Slice's Pizza Index (2022 data), and restaurant prices in the West rose 3.2% over the past year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Utah pizza does not always get respect nationally. A 2024 Clever Real Estate study ranked Salt Lake City 45th of 50 large metros for pizza. City rankings and "best of" listicles tend to rest on reputation alone. They say little about which pizzerias keep a clean kitchen, charge a fair price or serve diners with dietary needs. A data-driven ranking can weigh all of those things at once.

Every time I share my own favorite pizza places in Utah, I get a lot of comments from people either agreeing with my list, or telling me I’m completely wrong. What’s considered “the best” is highly subjective if you’re only judging these places based on taste.

So in an effort to find the best pizza in Utah, Utah Is Awesome compared 53 pizzerias across 13 key metrics in three dimensions: Reputation & Recognition, Food Safety, and Value & Accessibility. Our data set ranges from customer ratings and readers'-poll wins to county health-inspection records and the price of a pie.

Brabo Pizza is the best pizzeria in Utah, leading the state in both Reputation & Recognition and Food Safety. It has the highest average customer rating in our sample, 4.90 stars across 618 Google and Yelp reviews. Brabo opened in 2024.

Brabo is one of only three pizzerias in our sample with a Best of State award. It won Best of State's "Pizza – Gourmet" title in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Brabo also posts the best Salt Lake County health-inspection ranking in our sample, at the 70th percentile. Its one inspection on file shows 2 critical violations and no closures. Its Value & Accessibility rank is lower. Brabo is open 35 hours a week, and we could not verify its price per square inch.

2. Curry Pizza (Lehi)

Overall score: 66.00 | Reputation & Recognition: 2nd | Food Safety: n/a | Value & Accessibility: 9th

Curry Pizza is the second-best pizzeria in Utah. It ranks second for average customer rating, at 4.89 stars, and eighth for review volume, with 2,932 Google and Yelp reviews at its Lehi location.

Curry Pizza won Best of State's "Pizza – Custom Gourmet" award in 2025. It has served Utah since 2007.

Curry Pizza offers both gluten-free and vegan options, and it is open 66 hours a week. Utah County does not publish a health-inspection ranking comparable to Salt Lake County's, so Curry Pizza was scored at the sample median for Food Safety.

3. Slackwater Pub & Pizzeria (Ogden)

Overall score: 64.17 | Reputation & Recognition: 3rd | Food Safety: n/a | Value & Accessibility: 6th

Slackwater Pub & Pizzeria rounds out the top three, on the strength of its popularity and its readers'-poll wins. Its Ogden location has more reviews than any pizzeria in our sample, with 7,034 on Google and Yelp and a 4.56-star average.

Slackwater won Best Pizza in Salt Lake Magazine's 2026 Best of the Beehive readers' poll after placing second in 2024. It also won the Standard-Examiner's 2025 Best of Northern Utah and The Signpost's 2025 Waldo's Choice poll at Weber State University. Its Provo location was a runner-up in Utah Valley Magazine's 2025 Best of Utah Valley.

Slackwater offers gluten-free and vegan options and is open 79 hours a week. Weber County does not publish a comparable health-inspection ranking, so Slackwater was scored at the sample median for Food Safety.

Methodology

To find the best pizza in Utah, Utah Is Awesome compared 53 pizzerias across three key dimensions: 1) Reputation & Recognition, 2) Food Safety and 3) Value & Accessibility.

To be included, a pizzeria had to be pizza-focused, independently owned or a Utah-based brand, open at least 12 months, and have at least 300 Google reviews and a Google rating of 4.4 or higher. National chains were excluded. Winners of the readers' polls we used were included regardless of these criteria, which added Pizza Nono, Maxwell's East Coast Eatery and Este Pizza Co. Dixie Pizza Wagon was added to the sample and meets the standard criteria. Its No. 5 spot on Yelp's 2023 Top Pizza Spots in the U.S. & Canada was not scored, because that list is built from Yelp ratings and review volume, which our study already counts. Brands with multiple locations were scored on their most-reviewed Utah location on Google.

We evaluated those dimensions using 13 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the best possible performance.

We then determined each pizzeria's weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample.

Notes on how metrics were scored

*Review counts: We used the logarithm of each pizzeria's total review count to avoid overcompensating for very large differences between pizzerias.
**Average customer rating: We combined Google and Yelp ratings into one average, weighted by each platform's review count. We scored this metric by rank within the sample rather than by distance from the highest and lowest ratings, so a single low-rated pizzeria does not distort everyone else's scores. Tied pizzerias share a rank.
Critical violations: Newer restaurants have fewer than 10 inspections on file, so we measured critical violations per inspection.
Readers'-poll scoring: For regional polls, a category win earned 2 points and a runner-up or finalist placement earned 1 point, summed across pizza categories. For Best of the Beehive, a No. 1 finish earned 3 points, No. 2 earned 2 points, and No. 3 or a finalist placement earned 1 point. The 2026 Best of the Beehive finalists were unranked, so each earned 1 point. Non-pizza honors were not counted.
Unverified values: Any value we could not verify was scored at the sample median, so it neither helps nor hurts a pizzeria. For the gluten-free metric, unverified values were scored at the sample average.

Limits of the data

Food safety covers only Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake County Health Department is the only health department in our sample area that publishes a comparable ranking. It ranks each establishment only against others in the same risk level, so a slice shop is not compared with a full-service restaurant. Fourteen Salt Lake County pizzerias have a ranking on file. Victor's Pizza Co. is listed as "not ranked," and Este Pizza Co. (Sugar House) has only a follow-up inspection on file under its current permit. Those two pizzerias and all pizzerias outside Salt Lake County were scored at the sample median for all three Food Safety metrics. No required closures appeared in any inspection history we reviewed.
Price was verified for only some pizzerias. We verified a published price and pie size for 16 of the 53 pizzerias. The rest were scored at the sample median.
Other gaps. We verified a founding year for 17 pizzerias and a gluten-free option (offered or not) for 27. The rest were scored at the median or average.
Some awards were credited at the brand level. Summit Pizza Co.'s Best of State wins went to its original Kamas location. Slackwater's Best of Utah Valley placement went to its Provo location, and The Pie Pizzeria's Standard-Examiner Best of Northern Utah placement went to its Ogden location. We credited each to the brand.
Readers' polls by year. City Weekly's 2025 and 2026 Best of Utah results had not been released when we collected data, so we used the 2024 results.

Note: Online ratings carry the most weight because research from Harvard Business School found that a one-star increase in a restaurant's Yelp rating leads to a 5% to 9% increase in revenue for independent restaurants.
