Introduction

I’ll never forget the summer I moved to Salt Lake City.

I had visited before, but now that I was a new resident, I was nervous, and completely out of my comfort zone.

There I was, plunked down in the middle of a brand new place to live.

I knew a handful of people, but was totally clueless when it came to the essentials. You know– where to buy groceries, the best places to dine out, watch a movie, go hiking, and generally the knowledge of all the things that tie a community together to make it a home for someone new to the area.

One beautiful summer day, I remember driving with my new friends down Van Winkle Expressway in Murray. We were in a Jeep with the doors and hardtop off. 

It was late afternoon, and we decided to grab a bite to eat on the patio of a local restaurant. I don’t remember exactly what we ate for dinner that day, since it was more than 10 years ago. What I do remember is being grateful to have what was basically an entourage of tour guides to show me around town, and give me advice about what I should do, where I should go and how I should get there.

I’ve had a lot of memorable and exciting adventures in Utah in the years since I’ve moved here, and lately a lot of people have been asking me to give them my recommendations.

I love to use social media to showcase all the great attractions Utah has to offer. The great thing about social media is the fact that it’s a way to network with people, and have real and honest conversations around certain specific topics.

One trend that I’ve noticed is that people love to use social media to find fun things to do in their local communities, and over the years I’ve had people reach out to me directly to ask me questions about Utah.

This book is a compilation of a year’s worth of activities that anyone in Utah can and should do.

It's the best of the best.

My hope is that people of any age, ability, faith or stage in life will find value in this book, and push themselves to try something new.
