You know Utah has the scenery. But you might not know how many music videos filmed in Utah turned our red rock into a backdrop for some of the biggest songs of the last three decades.

1. Benson Boone, "Beautiful Things" (2024)

Boone and his band perform on the red rock bluffs near St. George. The video has racked up over a billion views on YouTube.

Boone isn't just a tourist here either. He now lives about 30 minutes south of Salt Lake City, and his family lives near St. George. Utah basically gets a producer credit on his career at this point.

2. The Killers, "Human" (2008)

The hometown band went straight to Goblin Valley State Park for this one. Watch the band perform among the mushroom-shaped sandstone hoodoos that make Goblin Valley look like nowhere else on earth.

Makes sense. The Killers are from Las Vegas, but Utah's desert has always felt like an honorary member of their sound.

3. Katy Perry, "Rise" (2016)

Perry's Olympic anthem for Rio 2016 was shot almost entirely in Southern Utah, split between Snow Canyon State Park and Sand Hollow State Park. She spends the video dragging a giant pink parachute across red rock and water before it lifts her into the air.

Utah State Parks staff had to work around the parks' busy spring season just to get the shoot scheduled. Worth it. The video has over 200 million views.

4. Post Malone, "Saint-Tropez" (2019)

The driving sequences roll through Big Cottonwood Canyon, with a fleet of supercars winding up the mountain road outside Salt Lake City. If you've driven that canyon yourself, you already know why they picked it.

5. Jon Bon Jovi, "Blaze of Glory" (1990)

This one required a helicopter. Bon Jovi and his crew flew equipment up to the top of The Rectory, a sandstone mesa in Professor Valley near Moab, and built an entire drive-in movie set on top of it. They camped up there for two nights to get the shots.

The video shows off 360-degree views of Professor Valley and the Colorado River below. BLM was reportedly not thrilled about the finale, which involved lighting the set on fire.

6. Empire of the Sun, "Alive" (2013)

The Australian duo brought their over-the-top costumes to Bryce Canyon National Park, using the spire formations as a backdrop for their signature visual style. Bryce's hoodoos do a lot of the heavy lifting here.

7. Imagine Dragons, "On Top of the World" (2013)

Shot in Provo, the Imagine Dragons' hometown, this one goes for a 1960s look and pokes fun at the Apollo moon landing conspiracy theory. A few local Utah personalities show up in cameos.

8. Michael Bolton, "Said I Loved You... But I Lied" (1993)

Bolton sings from the cliff edge at Alstrom Point, overlooking Lake Powell, with Antelope Canyon also featured in the video. The '90s hair game is strong. So is the view.

9. The Piano Guys, "Desert Symphony" (2011)

The Utah-based group hauled a Yamaha grand piano out to Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, and Kolob Mountain and played it in the middle of the desert. It's exactly the kind of stunt that put The Piano Guys on the map.
