Taste Ogden's Best Restaurants and Learn Wild Tales from Utah's Historic Railroad Town
This walking food tour combines gourmet tastings with stories of local legends and frontier characters
OGDEN, Utah — OTown Food Tours has launched its "Taste of Ogden Food & History Tour," bringing culinary tourism to Utah's historic railroad junction. This leisurely-paced walking tour carves a path through the streets of historic Ogden, exploring the city's surprisingly vibrant food scene with stops at five of the area's best restaurants, bakeries, bistros, and boutiques.
The 2.75-hour experience covers 1.5 miles of walking and includes seven tastings—four savory and three sweet—ranging from hand-rolled maki and sushi to authentic Sicilian cannoli, scratch-made macarons, and local artisan chocolate.
"You've got to take this food tour! If you love delicious food, and want to experience the engaging stories of the people and places that make up Ogden's fascinating history, this is the tour for you!" said James C., a recent tour participant. "I'm a 'foodie.' I loved sampling the savory dishes and the sweet treats from some of Ogden's best restaurants and shops."
Tour guide and founder Rick Proffer brings 25 years of public education experience to his storytelling. While food takes center stage, Proffer shares colorful tales and wild stories of Ogden's past, featuring local characters both shady and heroic who define the history of this frontier town.
"OTown Food Tours' mission is to support and celebrate Ogden through food and story," Proffer said. "As a registered Benefit LLC, we know that when community members care for and support each other, we all thrive. A portion of every dollar spent goes to local non-profit organizations supporting children and families in our community."
Tours begin at Union Station and operate year-round with groups of 2-8 guests. Private tours are available for larger groups up to 25 people. Pricing starts at $82 per person, with generous 20% tips for restaurant staff already included.
"Ogden has many diverse, vibrant, and creative food and drink offerings, yet there are currently no food tours operating in our city," Proffer said. "A food tour can spotlight, celebrate and support our restaurants, shops, and producers, while giving our locals and visitors a true 'Taste of Place.'"
