Fireworks Sparked Multiple Utah Fires Over July 4 Weekend

Utah wildfires linked to fireworks broke out across the state over the July 4 weekend, despite a statewide ban. Here's what happened and what it means for Pioneer Day.

Brigham City: 4 fires in one night. Fireworks likely caused four fires that broke out after dark on July 4, according to Fire Chief Brandon Thueson. Fireworks were legal in the areas where the fires started.

Provo: 7-acre brush fire in a banned zone. An aerial firework sparked a fire in Slate Canyon, where fireworks are already restricted. No suspect identified. Provo Fire Rescue says it proves the ban matters.

Layton: Costa Vida destroyed. A fire hit a Costa Vida just before midnight on July 4. Damage tops $1 million. Investigators suspect fireworks but haven't confirmed it. Layton Fire Department has details.

Kane County: Mineral Gulch Fire. Started July 4, human-caused. Check Utah Fire Info for current size and containment, since those numbers change daily.

Pioneer Day outlook: Gov. Cox says the fireworks order lifts if Utah gets a wet July. Until then, he's telling people to keep buying fireworks. Officials will reassess closer to July 24.
